True, I was unwise in selecting the basic insurance option. Regardless, my efforts to communicate with Here to There and learn what options existed, even just for basic clarification on the issue, revealed just how difficult Here to There wants to make their customers' lives. I did, however, hear the excuse along the lines of, "we just changed our computer system, so that's why we don't have information about your damage claim after three months."
I'm sure who you get greatly effects your experience, but my experience was nothing less than excellent with Here to There. The movers showed up within their time window, were extremely careful with my furniture (wrapped and taped everything), and had an entire upstairs 2 bedroom apartment worth of furniture moved in 2 hours.
Had a 12-5 window. When we didn't receive a call by 5, I called and was told it would still be a few hours. They then called back and said movers wouldn't be there until the next day. Was given 10% off and free materials. Someone should have called to tell us if the delay. If I hadn't called I'm not sure we would have gotten a call. 10% does little to compensate us for lost time. We arranged our schedules around the window we were given, took off work, arranged child care. When movers did arrive the next day, they only had a pull behind trailer. When I reserved our move, I told her I had a 2 bedroom and then we would have to stop at my boyfriends one bedroom. She said, no problem as we were charged by time not stops. She'd make a note and we could tell them that day. So a small trailer obviously led to more time which = more $. After two trips, we sent them home and had to finish the rest of the move ourself. So almost $400 spent for late movers who didn't get everything moved. However, the guys who moved us were awesome. They worked hard and were very polite.
Save yourself the stress and avoid Here to There.
Second, and much more important, this company will give you the runaround regardless. Over the course of over three months, I think I called them at least a dozen times, and spoke with several different people, to try to get just some information on the damage the movers caused. After first bringing up the issue in late August, I finally received some clarity in late November, when someone offered $3.00 for a clock the movers destroyed.
First, one of their insurance options is a blank check for Here to There to get away with murder if they damage anything lightweight. If you choose basic coverage, Here to There will reimburse you solely based on weight, so getting a reasonable reimbursement based on damage to any lightweight, but valuable item is impossible.
DO NOT USE Here to There for at least two reasons.
Quinton and Dave did an excellent job with the move. They didn't ding up any walls of our new house. We had a mattress protector that got ripped and dirty and JR replaced it for us out of good faith. I would highly recommend this moving company.
If I could rate less than 1 star, I would. I hired here to there movers June 9. I moved into an upstairs unit. The movers decided they wouldn't use the stairs. Instead they tied ropes around every item I owned and pulled it over a balcony with metal railing....even after I told them I was uncomfortable with it. I purchased an entire house of furniture one year ago. Nice stuff. So my solid wood foot board was damaged first...then a dining room chair...then my solid oak dresser (my only family heirloom)...then they call me to look in their truck. My daughter's solid wood dresser had been dropped from their ropes and was completely demolished. They wanted to haul it away "free of charge" to properly assess the damage. They bring an invoice where they first tried to overcharge me by $110 and second, had a paragraph scribbled out where insurance to fully cover damage was an option. I questioned this but i was advised to put in a damage claim online. I put in my claim and sent photos when asked. It took 3 weeks to get someone out to look at my items. He said i would get the estimate on 2 days. I've made 8 phone calls to get info and each time was told I would hear back the same day. Finally today I get through on 7/31 (7 weeks later), was told they would pay 60 CENTS PER POUND! And they guessed all of that stuff was a total of 150 lbs... ?? Unacceptable. They refused to discuss further even when I offered specs showing the weight of the 3 new pieces of furniture I am still paying on! I tried to settle for $250 to at least buy my daughter a dresser and they refused. I am posting this in hopes that no one will get involved with a nightmare like this. It is was a horrible experience and they have terrible customer service. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY IN INDIANA!
